The University of Applied Sciences of Southern Switzerland (SUPSI) is one of the 7 Universities of Applied Sciences in Switzerland (Fachhochschule, haute école spécialisée, university of applied sciences). It has a university statute, focused on professional training and applied research. Together with the University of Southern Switzerland (USI), to which it is closely linked in terms of collaboration activities and common institutions, it is the only Italian language university pole in Switzerland, with almost 4,000 students in the Lugano region.

the specialist research sector "cultural and scenic change in arid Africa" was established in which the disciplines of Egyptology, African Studies,
Botany, Geography, Prehistory and Early History, and Ethnology participate. In addition, the university is involved in the specialist research into "theory
of the lexicon".
EMICC European Master in Intercultural Communication
The European Masters in Intercultural Communication is a two-year interdisciplinary academic course of study designed to enhance the professional competence of participants preparing for careers with significant intercultural contact. The fundamentally international character is one of the strong assets of the EMICC programme. It is offered since 2001 within a network of seven prestigious European universities in Belgium, Germany, Estonia, Finland, France, Portugal and United Kingdom.
